We’d like to take the liberty of introducing ourselves. We are the Academy: Music and Arts Long Island. We teach music and art, lessons and classes of all types, but for now, we want to focus on voice lessons. We teach voice lessons in Lake Grove at our studio or we can come to you in the greater Lake Grove area.
If you’re anything like everyone we know, you are busy living in Lake Grove. Life demands so much from us all. We take care of friends and family, we go to work, we sometimes make time for exercise, we make sure we’re eating – but how often do we take care of our self-development? Our own enrichment?
The families we know are running ragged, going from activity to activity – on a seemingly endless track of driving from one place to another. It seems we all need a moment of solace, a break, a breath of fresh air. Some answer to the question: How can we enrich our lives and the lives of our children without wasting hours of travel time each week? Take advantage of our services, we’ll save you time and money too!
We encourage musicians of all ages and abilities to sign up for voice lessons. There is no voice lesson too simple or assignment too complex for us. There is no need we cannot meet. We have a studio conveniently located in Lake Grove, but we are more than happy to send one of our university educated, seasoned, highly skilled, passionate, enthusiastic teachers right to the convenience of your own home in Lake Grove for a small additional fee.
No student is one size fits all, or even one size fits most. If we’re going with clothing as the analogy here, think of us as a fine Italian suit. We custom fit to your needs, every single time. Since communication is the cornerstone of every relationship, all you have to do is tell us all about you (or your child) – age, experience, skill level, and don’t forget interest! Not every person is going to be interested in classical music (let’s face it). There are a lot of Elton John fans out there! And if rock isn’t your bag, maybe blues will be. Or jazz! If you’re not sure, “I don’t know” is also a perfectly reasonable answer. We can figure it all out together.
Proper, solid vocal technique is extremely important in any style of singing. As with all styles of vocal music, our students are taught how to keep proper breath support, increase their projection and range, match pitch, have good tonal quality, all while learning how to be comfortable performing in front of an audience with excellent stage presence.
We don’t have a lot of stringent rules here (we’re a pretty relaxed group of musical geniuses), but we do recommend if your little one is younger than age 6 that they enroll in our preschool aged “Baby Bach” classes. These classes get your little one ready for private vocal instruction in a small group setting with the help of rhythm games, sing-alongs, dancing, practice with musical notes, and they will even get to express themselves using color and art materials. This coupled with the fact that they’ll probably meet some new little buddies (or lifelong friends), makes this nothing short of a blast for the kids. Since we’re talking about our smallest ones, let’s also talk about some of the movers and shakers on the other end of the spectrum: Juniors and seniors in high school. These guys have a lot of pressure on them nowadays. They have SATs, ACTs, college applications, college interviews, AP classes, the whole nine.
Wouldn’t it be great if they could get a leg up in all of this? We not only offer lessons and competition prep (NYSSMA, ABRSM Royal Academy) – but we also offer a completely private, one performer at a time showcase where the student in question can have their best work professionally recorded to submit to as many schools as they please.
We offer one-on-one voice lessons in thirty, forty-five, and sixty minute time slots. If you’re like one of the students we mentioned immediately above, you’ll probably need more time for all of that material you want to perform, you super achiever you. If you’re just starting out, though, we generally recommend less time – so you can get used to everything in a relaxed manner. I digress, which is fancy term for “I’m babbling.” We said earlier that we’ll tailor to you, so feel free to talk to your teacher about what fits your needs best.
