We offer piano lessons for Long Island NY either in your home or at our school.
Our school features programs for all aspiring pianists which incorporate all aspects of piano playing including improvisation, composition, technique, music theory, and music history to give our piano students appropriate context. Piano lessons are customized by style preference which can encompass anything from classical to pop, rock, jazz, and blues. Piano lesson programs are structured to enable students to reach their own personal goals for playing. Piano lessons can be taken at our professional private studios, or our school can travel to you in the convenience of your own home for an additional small fee.
On average, most children are ready to start private piano lessons at the age of 5. Before age 5, we recommend that students start out by taking our pre-school music classes which will get them a head start and fast preparation for private piano study. In our pre-school music classes, younger students will develop and enhance the skills necessary to start private piano instruction much earlier on.
Our group lesson program for young pre-school beginners are designed to keep learning fun and exciting while keeping them engaged and learning the basics about playing the piano. The classes incorporate a variety of fun activities ranging from singing, dancing, coloring, and of course piano playing mixed in with rhythm games while discovering new simple musical instruments along the way. All of our piano teachers are experienced, highly qualified, and university trained. We believe that music education on the piano should never be one size fits all. Our school matches each student up with the best teacher for them, taking into account their learning style, personality type, and musical style preferences.
Having a good student-teacher match allows for learning to occur quickly and naturally in a fun, comfortable environment. Every piano student in our school has a piano lesson program created just for them and their specific learning needs and goals on the instrument.
Piano students in our school have the opportunity to perform in multiple recitals every year. We offer multiple recital days and times for your convenience. Each recital is kept short to around an hour in length with a limited number of participants so everyone has a chance to showcase their pieces. Piano recitals give students a venue to show off their skills as well as build and gain self confidence in their abilities.
Piano lessons are offered in 30 minute, 45 minute, or 60 minute time slots. Lesson length will vary depending upon each student’s age, skill level, and the amount of material they will be practicing each week. For beginner piano students, half hour lessons are appropriate. Once a piano student has a little more experience behind them, longer sessions will become necessary. The student’s teacher can determine what lesson length is necessary and appropriate based upon their professional assessment.
We offer many performance opportunities throughout the year for students to perform including our school recitals, outside competitions, and music festivals such as NYSSMA, National Piano Guild, and the ABRSM Royal Academy Exams.
In addition, our school offers special piano instruction for children and adults who have special needs and physical disabilities. Our piano lesson program is open to all abilities including adults in self direction programs.
Piano Students who are juniors and seniors in High School can elect to perform their own private recital featuring a showcase of their best repertoire from the past school year. All junior and senior recitals include a professional recording and accommodations for family and friends in attendance.
It is extremely important for all piano students to have an appropriate, real, quality instrument to practice on. A piano is an investment in you and your child that will last a lifetime. Good pianos allow students to practice and play at their best. By not having a good instrument, it will actually hold students back in their development while discouraging their creativity and motivation levels to practice.
Beware of the pitfalls of starting piano lessons on a very old and or “free” piano. The majority of these kinds of instruments do not hold their tuning and do not offer appropriate resistance for the student to develop adequate strength and control in their fingers. You are always better off investing a little more up front in getting a quality piano so you can gain optimum value out of your piano lessons.
